The Bengali film industry is living the expectation of the next film named Sharthopor (meaning Selfish) that is already becoming a hit with its audiences, due to its relatable and timely theme. Koel Mallick, one of the main characters in the movie, has recently mentioned the massive positive reception of the trailer and the distinct popularity of the film. The movie is scheduled to be released on 21st October; right before the Bhai Phonta festival and this will be a highly sincere and captivating movie-going experience.
Koel Mallick has shown her happiness with the trailer and the music of the film by saying that the reception it got was very positive. She emphasized that the strength of the movie is in the fact that its topic is very topical, it is a story that can be found in millions of homes. The messages that are flooding in on the trailer (like this is the story of my maternal cousin or this is the story of my uncle son) testify to the universal appeal of the movie. These, are the tales of all the houses, said Koel, and emphasizing the basis of the film in reality.
Although it is difficult to admit that it is hard to discover a totally new theme in the sphere of cinema, Koel is sure that Sharthopor raises a certain and delicate theme that has not been discussed many times in Bengali cinema: a brother-sister relationship is put to the test due to an inheritance dispute. This is a sensitive matter that tends to divide family against each other and this is what makes the film so attractive, which also co-star Anupam (probably to Anirban Chakrabarti or another actor) highlighted. The actress questioned the reason why such a usual, but emotionally rich, story had not been shot into a movie before. To Koel, it is lucky and a privilege to have been a part of a narrative that is new and very familiar.
The genuine nature and the honesty of the film is one of the reasons why Koel was attracted to the project. She pointed out that this integrity is felt throughout the movie in each frame. This was the promise of honesty in storytelling that made her the most interested in the script and the project in general.
Sahorpore will be released on the 21st of October. The movie has a particular personal meaning to Koel Mallick herself; it is the on-screen reunion with her dad, the long-time actor Ranjit Mallick, after 16 years. Koel also expressed her apprehension and enthusiasm about this partnership, and she admitted that she was psychologically ready to leap at joy in the event that her father took up the position. She later on became aware that the intensity and relatability that the script had was what was to attract her, and influenced by the same, her father said yes.
In Sharthopor, Koel Mallick is Aparna Ghoshal, who is a married sister and decides to challenge her brother Saurav (Kaushik Sen) in a court over their inheritance property. Ranjit Mallick plays the role of a person who takes up the case of Aparna as an honest and principled lawyer, G. K. Laha, and Anirban Chakrabarti portrays the role of the lawyer of the brother. The movie is a story of a deep emotional dilemma, when a family bond of love between two brothers is challenged by a court case, where one woman has to be ready to lose her emotional connection with her fatherly house, and her legal right to her own inheritance. Sharthopor, directed and produced by Surinder Films under the guidance of Annapurna Basu, is a film that is set to be an emotional and topical family drama in the season of festivity.
