Due to delays in animal permissions and censor approval works , the release had been pushed back. Originally scheduled for July, The Academy of Fine Arts will now hit theatres on November 14, 2025 - Children’s Day.

A Bengali film receiving such a long list of censor changes is almost unheard of. Director Jayabrata Das isn’t surprised though.

“The film passed with just 54 modifications/cuts- I was prepared for many more. Every change suggested by the board was justified.” he said.

So why release an adult film on Children’s Day? Co-producers Soumya Sarkar and Sanket Mishra have a robust answer -

“Every year, films are released for kids. This year, let’s release one for the kids who’ve grown up.”

Made over a period spanning four years, the film was developed independently by Jayabrata and a group of his film institute friends, entirely with their own funds. The production was halted several times due to financial struggles, only to be revived again without giving up.

The film stars Rudranil Ghosh, Saurav Das, Payel Sarkar, Rishav Basu, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, Anuradha Mukherjee, Sudeep Mukherjee, Amit Saha, Anindya Pulak Banerjee, Rana Basu Thakur, and Anjan Ray Chowdhury, among others.

The director describes the film as a pulp action thriller- A love letter to Quintin Tarantino.

Though primarily an action thriller, he has blended the genre with comedy to give it a unique tone and twisted contextuality.

At the heart of the story lies an extremely expensive antique liquor bottle -

and a motley group of criminals plotting to steal it.As they put their plan into motion, one incident leads to another, creating a chain of twists, counterplans, and double-crosses that drive the film’s narrative forward. The simmering equations sizzle further with the explosive dalliances of the talented women in the film. Rumour has it, that the Bengali industry has rarely seen such explosive scenes. Audiences will be keenly awaiting this departure from the usual tepid fare.

Finishing the film was made possible with support from Soumya Sarkar and Prateek Chakravorty, helming Promod Films.Prateek opines,

“We haven’t seen much pulp action comedy in Bengali cinema. That’s why we wanted to support this unique film and help it reach a wider audience.”
